Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

With their magic number to clinch a playoff spot at just three, the Winnipeg Goldeyes did little on their own Thursday night to reduce that number.

The Goldeyes were walloped 10-1 by the Sioux City Explorers before 6,894 fans at Shaw Park.

Despite the loss, Winnipeg's magic number is down to two thanks to the Gary SouthShore RailCats beating the St. Paul Saints 5-4. The Goldeyes have a three-game lead over the Saints in the American Association's wild card race with four games remaining for each team in the regular season.

Sioux City scored one in the first, once in the third, twice in the fourth and three times in the fifth and eighth innings.

Winnipeg's only response on the scoreboard was a run in the seventh inning when Amos Ramon singled in Barbaro Canizares.

Yurendell de Caster was the only Goldeyes player with two hits in the game.

Goldeyes starter Ace Walker went five and two-thirds innings in a losing cause. He gave up six runs - five were earned - and struck out five.

Richard Salazar pitched a complete game for Sioux City. He allowed just seven hits and struck out six Goldeyes.

The final game of this four-game series goes Friday night. Lefty Chris Salamida (5-6, 3.86) will take the ball for Winnipeg. He will face Sioux City's Jason Jarvis (7-8, 4.27).

Great seats for all Goldeyes games are available through Ticketmaster by clicking on Ticketmaster.ca, calling 1-855-GOLDEYE or visiting any Ticketmaster location, including the Shaw Park box office.
