Diablos Drop Final Road Game Of 2012 To Wingnuts

August 30, 2012 - American Association (AA)
El Paso Diablos News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Diablos offense, ranked first in the league in team batting average but struggling on the club's latest road trip, continued to falter in Wichita as El Paso dropped its final game away from Cohen Stadium by a final of 5-1.

The Diablos and Wingnuts waged a scoreless battle for the first five innings, with El Paso starter David Casillas (6-2) holding Wichita to just one hit through the fifth. Wichita broke through, however, on a passed ball with the bases loaded that scored a run to put the home squad ahead 1-0.

They would add on, as David Peralta doubled home the two remaining runners on base to give the Wingnuts a 3-0 advantage. The lead grew the following inning when an error and a sacrifice fly tacked on two more runs, and propelled Wichita to a 5-0 lead.

The Diablos scored their only run of the evening on Jermy Acey's RBI double in the eighth, one of just six hits for El Paso. Acey finished his night with three hits in four at-bats, including a pair for extra bases.

Ryan Hinson (9-8) pitched eight strong innings for the Wingnuts, who clinched the league's second best overall record with their 57th win of the season.

The Diablos, meanwhile, fall to 45-51 and will finish the regular season under the .500 mark. The final four games of the season are Friday through Sunday at Cohen Stadium, as El Paso takes on the Sioux Falls Pheasants.
