Milwaukee Admirals News Release
MARCH MADNESS HITS THE FROZEN POND...The fate of the 2002-03 Milwaukee Admirals will be determined by the results over the next four weeks as the Admirals continue a wicked stretch of 19 games in a 31-day period. The Admirals are 1-2-0-0 in the first three games of the stretch with a win over Utah and losses in Houston and San Antonio. This week the team plays four games in five nights but will not leave the upper Midwest with three games at the Bradley Center and a game in Chicago.
ADDITION BY DIVISION... Through 33 games against the division this season, the Admirals are 18-11-2-2 and own winning or break-even records against all four divisional opponents. The breakdown: Utah (6-1-0-0), Houston (3-3-1-1), San Antonio (4-3-1-0) and Chicago (5-4-0-1).
VS. AEROS...Wednesday night, the Admirals face the Houston Aeros at the Bradley Center. It'll be the ninth meeting of the year between the two teams and the last of five at the Bradley Center. The Admirals are 3-3-1-1 through the first eight contests. Milwaukee is 1-2-0-1 the previous four games at the BC. All-time against Houston, the Admirals are 23-18-1-6 with a home record of 12-9-0-2. Brian Finley's 3-0 shut out January 17th snapped a nine game Bradley Center losing streak to the Aeros.
VS. MIGHTY DUCKS...Friday and Sunday the Admirals take on the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks at the Bradley Center. Over the past two seasons Milwaukee is 1-4-4-1 in ten games. The lone Admirals' win in the all-time series came at the Bradley Center last season when they beat the Ducks 4-1 on February 5, 2002. In the three games played at the Cincinnati Gardens this season, Milwaukee was 0-2-1-0 despite having leads in all three games. In the only other Bradley Center meeting this year, the Admirals and Ducks skated to a 5-5 tie on February 7th. In the four games played all-time at the Bradley Center, the Admirals are 1-1-1-1.
VS. WOLVES...The Admirals visit their archrivals at the Allstate Arena in suburban Chicago Saturday night. All-time against Chicago, Milwaukee is 47-33-1-9 with a road record of 19-17-1-4. The two teams have battled in some tight games over the years with 66 of the 90 games being decided by two goals or less and 49 of the games ending with a one-goal decision or in a tie. In one-goal games, the Admirals are 27-12-0-9 against the Wolves.
PLAYOFF PICTURE...With 20 games remaining in the regular season, the Admirals' currently hold the tenth and final spot for the Western Conference playoffs. The Admirals are only eight points away from the fifth seed in the conference.
GOALS GALORE...In the last 14 games, the Admirals have scored 50 goals to improve their season mark for goals/game to 3.17 (7th). The flipside, however is that they've allowed 58 goals in the last 13 games and have now allowed 3.23 goals/game (24th).
THE MANN SHOW...With 18 points in his last 15 games, Cameron Mann is now second on the team in scoring with 48 points and 20 goals. The former Providence Bruin and Utah Grizzlie scored his first professional hat trick and earned an assist February 8th against Norfolk. Mann is also second on the team in multiple point games with 12.
DARREN TO BE GREAT...Rookie Darren Haydar continues to set Admiral team records and attain new milestones. Haydar is the Admirals' leading scorer with 63 points (24g-39a) in 55 games played. The AHL All-Star is the first Admiral since Ville Peltonen in 2000-01 to reach the 60-point mark in a season. He is also threatening Jason Cipolla's mark of 67 points for the most points scored in one season by an Admiral since the beginning of the team's affiliation with the Nashville Predators. The former University of New Hampshire star became the Admirals' first ever AHL 20-goal scorer with a goal 1/31 vs. Grand Rapids. He leads the team in goals scored (24), assists (39), multiple-point games (18), game-winning goals (6) and +/- (+23). Haydar is first in scoring among AHL rookies and is fifth among all league scorers. He surpassed last year's leading scorer, Petr Sachl, who scored 43 points for the Admirals over the entire season.
McCURDY ENCORE...Popular Milwaukee entertainer Pat McCurdy takes to the east atrium stage for the second time Friday night when the Admirals face-off against the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. At his previous appearance at the Bradley Center on January 31st, the Admirals drew 7,547 fans.
PREDS ON THE PROWL...The Nashville Predators have moved to within three points of a playoff spot in the National Hockey League's West Division. Former Milwaukee Admirals goaltender Tomas Vokoun recorded back-to-back shutouts last week. Nashville has won eight of their last nine games and will play the Blues in St. Louis Tuesday night.
