Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND, OH- Cleveland fell 7-3 to their in-state rival, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks tonight at Gund Arena. Six Mighty Duck goals over the final 40 minutes were too much for the Barons to overcome. The loss ended the Barons three game winning streak. The loss could be traced to a 2-minute spurt midway through the second period.
Cincinnati tied the game up at three when Peter Podhradsky beat Vesa Toskala short side on a wraparound. The Ducks then took the lead 1:23 later when Todd Reirden scored his second of the game on a slap shot that whistled between the legs of Toskala. Toskala was pulled in favor of Seamus Kotyk. Ten seconds later, Barons' forward Tavis Hansen streaked in alone and sniped a shot past Ducks' goalkeeper Ilja Bryzgalov. Unfortunately for him and Barons' fans at Gund Arena and across Cleveland, it hit the post preserving the 3-2 Mighty Ducks lead. The Barons would never fully recover and later in the second Rob Valicevic put the biscuit in the basket and gave the Mighty Ducks a 4-2 lead heading into the third.
The Barons would show no quit however and got back in the game when Jeff Nelson took a nice pass from Hansen and buried the puck in the Cincinnati goal to bring the Barons within one. However that was as close as they would get as Cincinnati would pile on 3 goals in the last eight minutes to push their lead to 8 pints over the Barons.
All was not lost for the Barons as Ryan Kraft had two goals. Over the last 4 games, Kraft has 4 goals and 2 assists. Cincinnati also got goals from Jonathon Hedstrom, Peter Podhradsky, and Travis Brigley.
The Barons will take on the Utah Grizzlies this Friday, March 7th against the Utah Grizzlies. Fans are reminded that it is Barons' team poster night and the first 3,000 fans will receive a team poster. There is also a team autograph session afterwards where you can get your poster sign by all of you favorite Barons.
