April 9, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Mathieu Brunelle scored twice in the third period to lift the Bakersfield Condors to a 5-3 victory over the Idaho Steelheads in front of 8,188 fans at the Rabobank Arena on Friday night. The win, coupled with a loss by Fresno to Long Beach clinched the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division.
Fans witnessed an energetic first period that ended 1-1. Warren Peters netted his 23rd of the season less than three minutes in to give the visitors the early lead. Ashlee Langdone tied the game up at 10:39 for the Condors, finishing a 2-on-1 with Sylvain Deschatelets, who has recorded a point in three straight. Idaho had a 22-15 shot advantage in the period.
Idaho regained the lead early in the second period. Ben Keup blasted home his sixth of the year from the right circle on an odd-man rush. Paul Rosebush's single effort about five minutes later again equaled the score. He cut from the left wing boards all the way to the right side, around the defense and tucked it home from the doorstep.
Early in the third period Brunelle got his first of the night. After forcing a turnover deep in the zone, he swept in front and slid it home. Idaho tied the game midway through the third, but the late heroics claimed the game for Bakersfield. Brunelle's redirection on the power play with just 1:49 left in regulation made it 4-3. Connor James put his 21st into the empty net to seal the win.
The Condors have one more game in the regular season as Idaho stays in town for a 7:00 p.m. start on Saturday night at the Rabobank Arena. One fan will win a home makeover patio giveaway from Sunshine Sunroom and Patio, sponsored by KKET-TV 11 and KUZZ 107.9.
