Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Mike Vigilante posted three assists for the Gladiators as Gwinnett knocked off the Augusta Lynx 3-2 on Saturday night in Augusta to close out the regular season.
Cam Brown opened the scoring with his 14th goal of the season on the power play 14:11 into the first period. Jim Jackson chipped the puck from the blue line past a host of Lynx players to a waiting, and wide-open Brown in the slot where he chipped the puck past Augusta netminder Chad Collins for the tally. Mike Vigilante also picked up an assist on the power play goal.
Gwinnett took a 2-0 lead on a lazy dump in by Jim Jackson at the 7:40 mark of the second period that eluded Collins. Mike Vigilante and Kevin Doell picked up the assists on the tally.
Augusta answered 45 seconds later to cut the Gladiators lead to one goal as Louis Goulet beat Gladiators netminder Adam Berkhoel on a breakaway. The puck squired out of a pile up in the neutral zone to a waiting Goulet who walked in untouched for the goal at 8:25 of the second period. Jamie Johnson and Brett Clouthier added the assists on the goal.
Kevin Doell scored his 6th goal of the season to push Gwinnett's lead to 3-1 as he took a lead pass from Mike Vigilante and slid the puck through the legs of Augusta netminder Collins for the tally. Jeff Campbell also picked up an assist on the goal that chased Collins from the Augusta net in favor of Jason Saal.
August cut the Gladiators lead to 3-2 with a goal by George Nistas with 1:01 left in the final period. Dan Sullivan and Colt King added the assists on the goal but Augusta could get no closer with Saal pulled in favor of an extra attacker.
With the win, the Gladiators will face the Mississippi Sea Wolves as either the 4th seed or the 5th seed as that game is still on going. Gwinnett finished the regular season 40-24-8 and 88 points as Adam Berkhoel won his 9th game of the season for Gwinnett.
