Gladiators dump Lynx in OT despite 64 saves from Kostur
April 9, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
Once again Augusta got a big performance from a goaltender at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, but the Lynx were unable to overcome the Gwinnett Gladiators in a 3-2 overtime loss Friday night.
Dan Sullivan provided the only goal of the opening frame by taking a Brian Passmore feed and converting one of Augusta's three shots on goal in the period for a 1-0 Lynx lead. Colt King also added an assist on the goal at 4:31.
Gwinnett would return the favor by tying up the game on a Mike Stathopoulos marker at 14:01 of the second period. Stathopoulos pounced on a rebound in front of Matus Kostur from a Pat Dwyer shot for the goal and a 1-1 tie through 40 minutes of play.
Augusta would once again claim the lead at 2:31 of the third period when Ken Magowan converted a cross-ice feed from Doug Wright to give the Lynx a 2-1 lead. But back came the Gladiators at 12:54 on a power play goal from Stathopoulos to force overtime.
It was there that Brad Schell scored at 2:52 from Joe Bourne to spoil a 64 save effort from Kostur. Sean Fields earned the win with 14 saves.
Augusta will now wrap up the 2004-05 campaign at home tomorrow night against the Gladiators. Game time is slated for 7:35 pm, with pre-game show on NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630 one half-hour before game time.
