
Thrilling End To The Bombers Season In Peoria

Peoria, Illinois â The Dayton Bombers ended their 72-game regular season schedule with a 5-4 shootout loss to the Peoria Rivermen in front of 7,255 at Carver Arena in the Peoria Civic center Saturday night. It was the final game for the ECHL Rivermen, who will join the American Hockey League next season.
The Rivermen struck first when defenseman Trevor Byrne gave Peoria a 1-0 lead at 4:15 of the first period. Randy Rowe made it 2-0 with his 21st goal of the season at 7:04, before JEFF SZWEZ put the Bombers on the board with a backhand shot past Peoria goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu at 15:56 of the first period.
The teams exchanged goals in the second period. Tyler Rennette gave Peoria a 3-1 lead just 10 seconds into period two. Then, SZWEZ scored his second goal of the game and 27th goal of the season to pull Dayton within one, 3-2, at 4:43.
Peoria opened a 4-2 lead when Warren Toews beat MIKE AYERS at 8:09 of the third period. Back-to-back powerplay goals from TYLER SLOAN (10:25) and SZWEZ (12:05) forced overtime and the shootout.
Rivermen captain Trevor Baker scored what proved to be the final goal for the ECHL Rivermen in the 5-4 shootout win. Ayers faced a season-high 58 shots on goal, and the Bombers ended the regular season with a record of 23-40-9, 55 points.
The final "Dayton Bombers Coaches Show" will be held Tuesday night at Fricker's in West Carrollton from 6-7 PM. This week's special guest is team President Costa Papista.
