Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx rounded out the 2004-05 ECHL regular season with a 3-2 loss to the Gwinnett Gladiators at home in front of 4,019 fans at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center Saturday night.

Cam Brown led off the scoring at 14:11 of the first period with a power play goal to make it 1-0 through 20 minutes of play. Gwinnett also opened the scoring in the second period from Jim Jackson to establish a 2-0 lead, until Louis Goulet replied from Jamie Johnson and Brett Clouthier at 8:25 to make it a 2-1 game. Kevin Doell pushed the Gladiators back in front by two goals at 9:52 for a 3-1 lead at the second period intermission.

Pushing for a tie late in the game, George Nistas scored his first ECHL goal at 18:59 from Dan Sullivan and Colt King to make it 3-2. Nistas shifted the puck to his backhand and roofed it over the left shoulder of goaltender Adam Berkhoel to give the Lynx life, but they could not find the equalizer and ended up with the loss.

Chad Collins started the game and played the first 30:06, stopping 19 of 22 shots and ending up with the loss. Jason Saal stopped all 16 shots faced in 29:29 of relief work. Berkhoel earned the win with 20 saves, and the Gladiators have now secured home ice advantage in the first round of the American Conference playoffs.

The Lynx finish the season at 28-35-9, good for 65 points and 10th place in the American Conference.

The Lynx wish all their fans, sponsors, season ticket holders, players, and staff a safe and healthy summer. We'll see you in 2005-06 with Black and Blue Hockey!
