Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters extended their winning streak to six games with a 10-5 win over the Battle Creek Bombers, sealing their first four-game sweep of the season.
For the sixth straight game, the Pit Spitters scored first. Tito Flores singled home Zeb Roos in the first and Mario Camilletti scored on a throwing error to make it 2-0. In the second, Camilletti got a sacrifice fly, Flores had another RBI single and Chris Monroe singled home a third run to make it 5-0. After a 1-2-3 third, the Pit Spitters scored two more on Flores' third RBI of the game and Monroe's second.
Monroe's two RBI's tied him for the Northwoods League lead with 38. Although Mankato's Matthew Higgins later took the overall lead back, Monroe still leads the Great Lakes division.
Battle Creek made it interesting in the fifth, scoring four runs on six hits, but Traverse City bounced back with two more in the sixth on a two-RBI single from Flores. Flores finished the game 3-5 with five RBI's.
Jake Arnold scored in the seventh after stealing two bases, and Battle Creek added one in the ninth, before Joe Pace slammed the door with a four-strikeout appearance in two innings.
Roos reached base every plate appearance, going 2-2 with two walks and a hit by pitch, also scoring four runs. Camilletti added on to his Great Lakes leading walk total with two. He now has 37, one shy of the overall Northwoods League, despite having 27 less at bats than the leader. His .515 OBP leads the league.
In the four-game sweep, Traverse City outscored Battle Creek 47-12 and is outscoring opponents 77-19 during the six-game winning streak.
