Madison Mallards News Release
ASHWAUBENON, WI - The Green Bay Booyah won their second straight via a walk-off to complete a two-game sweep of the Madison Mallards, 5-4, Friday night.
The Mallards got out to a good start in the top of the first inning with three straight hits from Drake Baldwin (Missouri State), Bryant Shellenbarger (Akron) and Matt Scannell (Princeton). Baldwin came around to score on Scannell's RBI single to right field to give the Mallards a 1-0 lead.
LHP Ryan Cabarcas (Florida) got the start for the Mallards and went four innings, giving up two runs and four hits while striking out three registering a no-decision. Green Bay was able to get to Cabarcas early as 3B Brendan Ryan (Texas A&M) was hit-by-a-pitch then came around to score on an RBI groundout off the bat of Dayson Croes (Quincy) to tie the score at one in the bottom of the first. Dalton Pearson (Georgia State) scored on a Max Wagner (Clemson) RBI single to give the Booyah a 2-1 lead.
The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth when the Booyah tacked on two more runs via a Pearson RBI single to center, which brought home Nathan Blasick (West Virginia) and Elias Flowers (Jacksonville) to extend the Booyah lead to 4-1
The Mallards rallied to tie the game at 4 in the top of the 8th inning. Scannell walked to lead off the inning and came around to score on an RBI infield hit from Josh Caron (Nebraska). Then, Cam Cratic (Missouri State) laced a double into the left field corner to bring home Michael Fuhrman (UC-San Diego) and Caron and tie the game at 4.
The Booyah rallied in the bottom of the ninth but could not score as Mallards CF Cam Cratic threw out Johnny Hipsman (Richmond), trying to score from second base on a single to keep the game going.
In the bottom of the tenth inning, Ryan grounded to shortstop Nick Gonzalez (Southern Florida), who made an errant flip to third base, which ended up going out of play, allowing Lewis to score the game winning run for the Booyah, giving them a 5-4 victory.
Jared Fong (Wash. U- St. Louis) suffered the loss for the Mallards while Kyle Coats (Wash. U- St Louis) picked up his first victory of the season for the Booyah.
The Mallards continue their road trip before the All-Star break tomorrow, as they head to Lakeshore to face the Chinooks at 6:35 P.M. The loss drops the Mallards to 6-5 in the second half of the season with two games remaining before the break.
