Pirates Shut out P-Bruins, 2-0
April 1, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins have been shut out for the first time this season since November 27th. Jeremy Smith played incredibly strong in net, keeping an aggressive Portland offense to just 2 goals.
The Portland Pirates got out to an early lead, with Brickley deflecting Gaunce's shot out of the air and past Smith. The Providence Bruins made McKenna work in net, with the Khokhlachev-Czarnik-DeFazio line getting many quality chances in the first 20 minutes of play. 11 shots on net was not enough though, and the Pirates went into the 2nd period with the 1-0 lead.
The P-Bruins found themselves on their heels in the second period, with the Pirates coming out strong. The Pirates managed to capitalize with 6:16 left in the middle frame when Schremp tipped MacKenzie's powerful wrist shot from the blue line. The period would have ended with Providence in an even larger hole had it not been for the clutch goaltending from Jeremy Smith.
Providence managed to fire 14 shots on net in the third, but McKenna fought off the P-Bruins to earn his third shut out of the season.
Brandon Carlo looked strong in his pro debut tonight, wearing #33 for the P-Bruins and playing defense alongside captain Tommy Cross.
Providence comes away from their 7 game road trip collecting 10 of a possible 14 points, and currently sites third in the Atlantic Division.
The Providence Bruins are back home at the Dunk tomorrow April 2nd for a two night stand against the division-leading Hershey Bears.
