Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers lost to the Portland Pirates Saturday night by a final score of 2-0. The Sound Tigers peppered 31 shots on goal, but Louis Domingue stopped every one for his first career AHL shutout. The Sound Tigers also had five power plays on the night and had their chances throughout the contest, but were unable to push it across the goal line. Kenny Reiter made 23 saves on the night for the Sound Tigers.
The Pirates scored their first of the contest at 11:29 of the opening period, on Andy Miele's 16th goal of the season. Jordan Szwarz took a shot that trickled on net and Reiter sticked it aside to the right circle. Miele was waiting right there, however, and took a wrist shot that beat Reiter for the first goal of the game.
The Sound Tigers got two excellent chances in the first period, as well, both of which came on breakaways for Pierre-Marc Bouchard. The first was a backhand that Domingue stopped; the second forced Chris Summers to take a hooking penalty which did not allow Bouchard to get a shot off. The Pirates also had a late flurry and led in shots on goal after the first, 13-10.
Brett Hextall scored for the Pirates early in the second period to make it a 2-0 game. Corey Trivino rushed into the Sound Tigers zone on the left wing and fired a shot on net. Reiter made the stop, but Hextall beat the Sound Tigers to the rebound and powered it in for his seventh of the season.
The Sound Tigers outshot Portland in both the second and third periods by a combined margin of 21-12, but Domingue made the saves he needed to and kept the Sound Tigers off the scoreboard. Reiter was pulled for the extra attacker with 1:28 to play and the Sound Tigers kept the pressure on in the Pirates end, but the horn sounded before they were able to cash in.
The Sound Tigers return to action Sunday afternoon when the host the Hartford Wolf Pack at 3 p.m. The first 2000 fans will receive a set of Sound Tigers hockey cards courtesy of Connecticut Highway Safety.
