Penguins Catch Fire in Third to Rally Past Wolf Pack

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton struck three times in the third period and Anton Zlobin registered the first multi-goal game of his pro career as the Penguins came from behind to down the Hartford Wolf Pack, 5-3, at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

With the Wolf Pack leading by a score of 3-2 going into the third, the Penguins found an extra gear to own the final 20 minutes of hockey and a 17-2 shot advantage.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton broke through to tie the game on its fourth man-advantage of the match. Zach Torquato slid a pass to the far dot for Tom Kuhnhackl, who rifled the puck top shelf over the shoulder of Wolf Pack goaltender Jason Missiaen.

Zlobin's second goal of the night was the decisive marker as the rookie forward set up shop in front of the Hartford crease and, after Brendan Mikkelson had his initial point shot stopped by Missiaen, was able to muscle to a rebound across the goal line with 7:50 left in regulation. Scott Harrington picked up his third assist of the night on the goal.

Brian Dumoulin capped off the win with a clearing attempt deep in his own zone that banked off the glass and rolled into the empty net with less than a minute to go in the contest.

While on the penalty kill in the first period, the Penguins took a 1-0 lead at 5:32 when Dominik Uher took a feed up-ice from Mike Carman and fired a wrist shot from the right circle that snuck under the arm of Missiaen.

Hartford responded on their next power play six minutes later as T.J. Hensick weaved into the offensive zone and in between the circles before sending a well-placed shot past the blocker of Jeff Deslauriers.

It was the Wolf Pack who took the next lead of the game with 7:11 gone in the second period. From the near corner of his own zone, Danny Syvret whistled a pass up to the Penguins blue line that sprung Danny Kristo behind the defense for a low shot that slipped inside the near post.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton came back to knot the match, 2-2, midway through period on Zlobin's third marker of the season. It took three minutes for the Wolf Pack to regain the lead after an outlet pass atop the crease by the Penguins ricocheted off a player and back past Deslauriers. The Penguins goaltender would go on to finish with 16 saves on 19 shots for his 16th of the season.
