Monsters Fall 6-1 in Rockford

ROCKFORD, IL- For the second straight night, the Lake Erie Monsters (17-15-0-3) were downed by the Rockford IceHogs (18-17-3-2), as Rockford shot out to a 3-0 lead and eventually won by a 6-1 score Saturday night. Andrew Agozzino scored the lone goal for the Monsters, while Mike Sgarbossa and Matt Hunwick had assists. The Monsters conclude their stretch of three games in three nights Sunday in Milwaukee.

Rockford scored the first period's only goal at the 10:15 mark. They made the score 1-0 when Brandon Mashinter tipped a Brett Skinner point shot past Sami Aittokallio, and held their one-goal lead into the first intermission.

Jeremy Morin's shot from the right point found the back of the Monsters net at 9:05 of the second period, giving Rockford a 2-0 lead. Brett Skinner's shot from the center of the blue line gave Rockford a 3-0 lead at 13:49 of the second period, before the Monsters put a puck past Jason LaBarbera.

Andrew Agozzino finished a picture-perfect play to get the Monsters on the board at 14:44 of the second period. Agozzino's backhand shot that beat LaBarbera high to the stick side was the ninth goal of the season for the Monsters forward, and was assisted by Mike Sgarbossa and Matt Hunwick.

Rockford quickly regained the three-goal cushion, making the score 4-1 at 15:55 when Joakim Nordstrom scored on a backhand from in front of the Monsters net. Mark McNeill scored to give Rockford a 5-1 lead at 8:37 of the third period. Pat Mullane added a goal for Rockford in the final minute of regulation to put the IceHogs ahead by a 6-1 score.

Aittokallio stopped 20 of 26 in net for the Monsters; his record is now 8-8-1. LaBarbera stopped 28 of 29 Monsters shots; he is 2-2-2 in net for Rockford.

The Monsters hit the ice Sunday at 6:00 PM Eastern in Milwaukee; the game can be heard live on AM 1220 WHKW.
