Pirates Return to Road to Face Sound Tigers in Bridgeport
January 11, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Bridgeport, CT - The Pirates are back on the road Saturday night as they face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in Bridgeport for the first time this season. Puck drop is set for 7 PM as the Pirates play their 5th game, and 4th road game, in the last week.
The Pirates dropped a 5-4 decision in the shootout last night in their first game at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee for the first home game of 2013. Andy Miele and Chris Summers each had a goal and an assist, with Miele's goal the 50th of his AHL career. Tobias Rieder added a goal on his birthday and Ethan Werek scored in his return to the lineup, but the Admirals were able to come back from two deficits to force the shootout. Mark Visentin made 22 saves for the Pirates.
Bridgeport dropped a 4-1 decision to the Manchester Monarchs last night, extending a 4 game slide that started in Lewiston on December 31st. Joey Diamond had the lone goal for the Sound Tigers, a power play tally, but Manchester scored twice before and twice after Diamond's tally, including two empty netters. Kenny Reiter made 31 saves in the defeat.
The Pirates and Sound Tigers faced off in the annual New Year's Eve game, with the Pirates taking a 4-2 victory. The Sound Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, but then the ice tilted in the Pirates favor. Brett Hextall scored twice, Jordan Szwarz added a goal in his return from Phoenix, and Lucas Lessio had the game winner for the Pirates. Louis Domingue made 23 saves in the win.
KeyBank Key to the Game
Special Assignment: Special teams have been shaky for the Pirates at the start of 2014, with the penalty kill faltering in the last two games. Looks for Pirates Captain Jordan Szwarz, one of the AHL's best penalty killers, to get the Pirates penalty killers unit, called the Warriors by the team, back on track.
Tonight's game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County.
