Amerks Edge Dogs 3-1, Snap Six-Game Winning Streak

HAMILTON, ONTARIO - Hamilton Bulldogs defenceman Greg Pateryn scored and goaltender Robert Mayer made 25 saves, but their efforts weren't enough to extend the 'Dogs season-best winning streak to seven games as Hamilton (18-15-0-4) fell to the Rochester Americans (15-14-3-3) 3-1 on Saturday evening at Copps Coliseum.

Hamilton scored first at 9:58 of the opening period on the power play, when Pateryn wristed a point shot past Rochester goaltender Nathan Lieuwen for his seventh goal of the season. Forwards Christian Thomas and Maxime Macenauer earned assists on the play.

Rochester replied with less than four minutes to go in the second period when forward Brandon MacLean tipped a point shot from defenceman Chad Ruhwedel past Hamilton goaltender Robert Mayer. Forward Kevin Sundher collected a second assist.

Amerks forward Johan Larsson scored at 10:01 of the third period to give Rochester a 2-1 lead. Forwards Luke Adam and Brayden Irwin drew assists on the play.

Adam added an empty netter to make it 3-1 Rochester with 59 seconds to play. Irwin and defenceman Nick Crawford earned assists.

Mayer made 25 saves on 27 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Lieuwen made 34 saves on 35 shots for the Americans in the win.

The Bulldogs went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Amerks went 0-for-6.
