Wolves Hold on for 2-1 Win over Admirals

Chicago Wolves News Release

MILWAUKEE --- The Chicago Wolves and goaltender Jake Allen withstood a late-game flurry from the Milwaukee Admirals to post a 2-1 Amtrak Rivalry win Saturday night at the Bradley Center.

Left wing Dmitrij Jaskin and center Keith Aucoin tallied 50 seconds apart in the opening minutes of the second period for the Wolves, while Allen kicked out 25 of 26 Admirals shots, including all 13 in the third period.

Chicago (20-13-1-2) took two consecutive penalties in the opening frame and Milwaukee (17-11-5-1) did not waste their chance, scoring on their second man-advantage. After Allen's initial stop on the doorstep, a scramble ensued in front of the net. The puck squirted out to right wing Vinny Saponari, who sent it top-shelf over a sprawled Allen at 13:46 of the first period.

By the 1:11 mark of the second period, Chicago had found the equalizer and the lead. The two unanswered goals were all the Wolves needed and Aucoin's shorthanded tally stood as the game-winner.

Jaskin kicked off the spree when he stole the puck from an Admirals defender, moving in on the goal and backhanding it past Milwaukee netminder Magnus Hellberg 21 seconds into the middle frame.

Aucoin put the Wolves up with a marker less than a minute later as he poked the puck out of the defensive zone on the penalty kill, chased it down, and rifled a wide-angle shot top-shelf.

Allen (15-7-2) made several big stops to keep Chicago ahead, earning the win and tying his American Hockey League career-high win streak with five consecutive victories.

Hellberg (5-13-1) made 19 saves.

The Wolves continue on the road at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, as they face Midwest Division rival Grand Rapids at Van Andel Arena.
