Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

After their comeback fell short in Game 1, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs will resume their three-game series vs. the Syracuse Chiefs tonight at Coca-Cola Park.

Jake Waguespack takes the ball tonight against right-hander Austin Voth . Tonight's starting pitching matchup is presented by Allentown Family Foot Care, which provides the latest in medical and surgical treatments of the entire foot and ankle. Learn more at affc.com.

Waguespack is making his second start of the season in Triple-A and fifth overall. Prior to his promotion on April 21, Waguespack had made three starts for Double-A Reading. He did not earn a decision but had a 4.50 ERA and struck out 13 in 14 innings. His first regular season start with the Pigs came in Game 2 of the doubleheader at Norfolk. He went four innings and allowed five runs (four earned) and struck out five but took the loss in the game.

Voth is the No. 26 prospect in the Nationals organization according to Baseball America. Coming off a rocky 2017, the 24-year-old has bounced back in 2018. Voth was called up to the majors earlier this week but did not appear in a game. He was the starting pitcher in the combined no-hitter Syracuse threw against Indianapolis earlier this season. This is Voth's sixth career start against Lehigh Valley; he is currently 0-2 against the Pigs.

LAST NIGHT: Trailing by two in the bottom of the ninth Monday, the IronPigs got the tying run to third base but could not cash in, falling to the Chiefs 5-4 in Game 1 at Coca-Cola Park.

Down by three in the bottom of the fifth, Lehigh Valley was finally able to push a run across. After back-to back-hits by Danny Ortiz and Joey Meneses, Heiker Meneses drove a one-out single to up the middle to cut the Syracuse lead to 3-1.

Danny Ortiz belted a lead-off home run to left field (his team-leading fourth) against reliever Phillips Valdez to cut the Chiefs' lead to one. Joey Meneses followed with a double and was brought home to tie the game on a pinch-hit single by Mitch Walding .

With runners on the corners and two outs, Roman Quinn doubled down the third base line to cut the deficit to one, putting the tying run on third and winning run on second. However they would be stranded as Chiefs closer David Goforth was able to induce a game-ending groundout.

TONIGHT AT COCA-COLA PARK: It is Dance Night at Coca-Cola Park and 3,000 fans 18 and older will receive a Rhys Hoskins bobblehead presented by Burger King.
