Bisons Fall to RailRiders, 7-1

Behind seven shutout innings from southpaw starter Daniel Camarena, the RailRiders defeated the Bisons, 7-1, on a warm Monday night from PNC Field.

The Bisons simply didn't have an answer against Camarena, who went seven innings while ceding just five hits and punching out six. Although allowing three extra base hits, Camarena responded by working through the trouble as the Bisons stranded three runners in scoring position.

Despite not being able to amass many runs, the Bisons accumulated 10 hits including a 3-5 effort from Tim Lopes and a second straight multi-hit game from Rowdy Tellez.

Tellez built upon his performance on Monday, rocketing a double into the right-center field gap in his first at bat. The Bisons got another extra base hit the next inning from the bat of the hot-swinging Tim Lopes, who stroked a pitch into the outfield that was misjudged by RailRiders' left fielder Clint Frazier. Both runners were left stranded on base. Lopes connected for his second double of the game in the top of the sixth inning, but once again, the Bisons were unable to scratch a run across as he was left 90 feet away from home plate.

An inning later, Tellez collected his second hit of the game lacing a hard ground ball into the Railriders' lefty shift. The ball skipped up and redirected off Scranton second baseman Billy Fleming's face for a single. The Herd struck out two times in a row but loaded the bases after Jason Leblebijian worked a walk and Ian Parmley was hit with a high and inside fastball off his elbow guard. The two out prospect was squandered when Roemon Fields flew out to centerfield to end the inning.

With Camarena's night done, the Bisons broke through in the top of the eighth with back-to-back singles from Lopes, who registered his third hit of the game, and Herd newcomer Devin Travis, who was optioned to the team on Monday. For the second straight at bat, Lopes failed to score as RailRiders' reliever Brady Lail answered with three outs to keep a goose egg on the board.

The Herd had some late life as it plated one run in the ninth. Darnell Sweeney, who hadn't gotten on base all night, roped a deep shot to centerfield that one-hopped the fence and the shortstop hustled to third for his first triple of the season. One batter later, Leblebijian hit a slicing ball into right field deep enough to bring home Sweeney on a sacrifice fly. Two more runners got on base when Parmley dunked one into left field and Fields legged out an infield single, but the same story persisted as the Bisons didn't get any more runs.

The Bisons hope to turn the tables in the rubber match Game 3 of the series as they battle the RailRiders at an early morning start time of 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday at PNC Field before returning to Coca Coca Field for a seven-game homestand.
