Indianapolis Indians News Release
TOLEDO, OHIO - Kevin Kramer collected three hits as the Indianapolis Indians rolled to a 7-3 road victory over the Toledo Mud Hens. Kramer finished just a triple shy of the cycle but raised his batting average to .304.
Kramer loudly opened the scoring with a home run to center field. It sailed over the wall and hit the batter's eye well beyond the center-field signage. Five of the next six Indianapolis (12-10) batters reached, and the inning was capped by Christopher Bostick's double to center field.
Fresh off being named International League Player of the Month, Jose Osuna drove home Kevin Newman for the fifth run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Jordan Luplow would later triple home Kramer who had singled and stolen second base earlier in the frame.
At that point the Tribe led 6-0, but Toledo (15-8) chipped away at the lead. Jarrod Saltalamacchia put the Hens on the board in the second inning, and Christin Stewart's two-run home run in the third cut the Indians' lead to 6-3.
The score remained until Indy added an insurance run in the eighth. Bostick knocked his second double of the game, and it plated Eric Wood to extend the lead to 7-3 over Toledo.
Clay Holmes (1-0) worked five innings to earn the victory. The bullpen trio of Tanner Anderson, Josh Smoker, and Johnny Hellweg combined to toss four shutout frames to close out the win.
Artie Lewicki (2-2) pitched into the sixth inning for Toledo but took the loss after he allowed the early offensive outburst.
Indy will go for the sweep on Wednesday morning in the trip's finale, first pitch is set for 10:35 a.m. The team returns to Victory Field on Thursday for a four-game homestand.
