Pigs Drop Series Finale to Chiefs, 11-2

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (53-66) dropped the series finale to the Syracuse Chiefs (53-67) by a score of 11-2 on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse.

Syracuse has now won 10 in a row.

The Chiefs took an early 4-0 lead with four runs in the first. Kevin Keyes plated a run with an RBI single, a throwing error charged to Pigs starter Jesse Biddle allowed a run to score, Matt Skole came through with a sac fly and Ricky Hague knocked home the fourth run of the frame with an RBI single of his own.

Syracuse extended the lead to 5-0 with a run in the second as Emmanuel Burriss led off with a double and scored on Trea Turner's RBI double.

Matt Den Dekker's solo shot off of Biddle in the bottom of the third gave the Chiefs a 6-0 advantage. It was Den Dekker's fifth home run of the season.

In the home half of the fourth, Turner led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a fly out and scored on another wild pitch by Biddle to give Syracuse a 7-0 lead.

Biddle (2-3) gave up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits to go along with three walks and three strikeouts in 3.2 IP.

Brian Bogusevic (2-4) extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the third. It is the fourth hitting streak of 10 or more games for Bogusevic this season who became the first player in franchise history to accomplish the feat.

The Pigs got on the board and cut the lead to 7-1 with a run in the sixth as Chase d'Arnaud (2-4, 3B, RBI, R) led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch from Chiefs starter Richard Bleier.

Bleier (4-1) allowed a run on six hits while walking a pair and fanning three over seven innings of work.

Syracuse opened up an 11-1 lead with four runs in the home half of the sixth as Burriss delivered a two-run single, Keyes brought home a run with an RBI double and RHP Chris Leroux (2.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) issued a bases loaded walk to Bleier.

d'Arnaud's RBI single in the top of the ninth scored Jordan Danks with the Pigs' second and final run of the night.

Tyler Pastornicky (2-5) also had a multi-hit night, his third straight for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

RHP Dalier Hinojosa (1.1 IP, BB, K) and RHP Dustin McGowan (1.0 IP, K) each had a scoreless outing in relief for Lehigh Valley.

The IronPigs will return home to open up a four-game set with the Pawtucket Red Sox on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. as RHP Alec Asher (1-0, 2.77) will get the start for Lehigh Valley against Pawtucket RHP Zeke Spruill (4-9, 4.48).
