BUFFALO, NY - Rochester rallied for four runs in the ninth inning but the tying run was thrown out at the plate to end the game as the Red Wings fell to the Buffalo Bisons 6-5 Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Field.

The rally started for the Red Wings (60-58) against Joba Chamberlain, who entered to pitch in a non-save situation for the Bisons (61-57) with a 6-1 lead. Doug Bernier began the inning with a single that deflected off of Chamberlain's foot, Oswaldo Arcia pinch-hit and drew a four-pitch walk and Byron Buxton reached on a fielding error to load the bases.

The error was originally ruled a base hit for Buxton which would have been his fourth of the game. The scoring change was made late after the game ended.

Xavier Avery struck out with the bases loaded for the first out before Reynaldo Rodriguez unloaded the bases with a three-run triple to left-center field. Ben Rowen took over for Chamberlain and Kennys Vargas greeted him with a first-pitch RBI single to pull Rochester within a run.

Eric Farris ran for Vargas and moved to second base on a groundout for the second out. James Beresford then pinch-hit and grounded a ball through the left side for a single as Farris tried to score from second base. The throw from left fielder Ezequiel Carrera was on the money and in plenty of time to retire Farris and the Wings.

The Red Wings had little success against Buffalo starter Randy Wolf (9-1), scoring only one run on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 6.0 innings. The Bisons roughed up Taylor Rogers (8-10), scoring a run in the first, two in the third and two in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Rogers allowed the five runs on 10 hits and two walks with a strikeout in 5.0 innings. He allowed four extra-base hits including a two-run homer to Andy Burns in the fifth.

Alex Meyer surrendered a run in his first inning of work in the sixth but settled down to give the Red Wings a chance. He worked 3.0 innings and gave up one run on two hits without issuing a walk while fanning two.

Buxton finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Vargas went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI in the loss as Rochester fell 6.5 games behind division-leading Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.'
