Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
FARGO, N.D. - It seems the Sioux Falls Pheasants and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks prefer to beat each other on the road. After dropping three to Fargo-Moorhead last weekend in Sioux Falls, the Pheasants won for the second time in a row in Fargo on Friday night.
The Pheasants used a five-run, first-inning rally on their way to a 10-7 drubbing of their division rival.
The Pheasants drew three consecutive walks from Fargo-Moorhead starter Scott Fogelson (2-3) to start the game. Mark Shorey drove in two with a double and Brandon Sing followed with a sacrifice fly. Francisco Leandro singled in two runs with two outs later in the inning for a 5-0 lead.
Fogelson exited the game after just 1 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs, six earned, on five hits.
With the Pheasants leading 7-4 in the in sixth, Brandon Sing drove in Gus Milner with a two-out single.
Milner and Leandro each went 4-for-5 with two RBI to lead the Pheasants. Milner provided a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning. Henry Contreras, Trevor Lawhorn and Sing also had multi-hit nights. The Pheasants scored five of their 10 runs with two outs.
After a rocky first inning that saw three RedHawks score, Pheasants starter Adam Cowart (3-1) allowed just one run and four hits in the next six innings. Cowart lasted 7 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits. He did not walk anyone and struck out one in his third victory.
Dan McDaniel finished the game for the Pheasants. He allowed a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to Nic Jackson, but it was too little, too late for Fargo-Moorhead.
The victory improves Sioux Falls record to 14-20. They are 3-2 on the current road trip.
The Pheasants continue the four-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, in Fargo. The game will be televised live on Midco Sports Net. It will be broadcast live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and online at www.kwsn.com.
