Wichita 8, Amarillo 6
Wingnuts CF Brent Clevlen made his only hit Friday night count. With the score tied at six runs apiece, Clevlen belted a two-run homer, giving his club the lead for good. The game went back and forth most of the night, with Wichita's early 2-0 lead erased by an Amarillo second that saw three runs cross the plate, including two on a Fehlandt Lentini homer off Wichita starter Junior Guerra. Lentini finished the game 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Wichita reliever Jared Simon earned the win, tossing 2.1 innings of one-run baseball and striking out one Sox batter. The Wingnuts' Josh Drew came in in the bottom of the ninth to close the game and earn his ninth save of the season.
Lincoln 4, Sioux City 1
After giving up a solo home run to Sioux City leadoff man Dustin Jones in the on his first pitch, Saltdogs starting pitcher Tim Brown blanked the Explorer's over the next 24 outs, earning his third win of the year. When all was said and done, Brown had allowed just five hits while striking out two Sioux City batters. Brown's teammates had his back, tying the score with small ball in the bottom of the first and giving Brown a two-run cushion in the fourth. Saltdogs 1B Phil Hawke led the way, going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Jones' home run in the opening inning was his only hit of the night.
Winnipeg 7, Kansas City 3
With his club trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning, Winnipeg DH Justin Bass shifted the momentum of the game with one swing. With teammate Luis Alen on second, Bass hit a two-run home run, making the way for back-to-back three-run innings that sealed the deal for the Goldeyes. Bass finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. The T-Bones took advantage of the runners they had, scoring three runs on just four hits and four walks. No Kansas City batter had multiple hits. Goldeyes starting pitcher Isaac Hess won the game, throwing 6.1 innings of three-run ball, giving up three hits and striking out four.
Gary SouthShore 2, St. Paul 1
In a game controlled by pitching, the RailCats edged the Saints by a run. Gary SouthShore starter Scott Shaw pulled his season win percentage to .500 with 6.2 innings of of one-run baseball, giving up four hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Not missing a beat, the RailCats bullpen allowed just a single hit over 2.1 innings with three strikeouts. Gary SouthShore went on top early with runs in the first and second inning, both of which came with two outs in their respective frames. LF Adam Klein scored in the first and batted in Mike Rohde in the second to highlight a 2-for-3 night.
Grand Prairie 5, El Paso 4
With the score tied in the bottom of the ninth, Grand Prairie C Chris McMurray tagged up from third on a fly ball by Danny Figueroa and beat the throw of El Paso's Stephen Douglas home to usher in the AirHogs' 5-4 win. The play was McMurray's only run and Figueroa's only RBI, but it came at just the right time. The Diablos led by as many as three runs early, taking their biggest lead on an Adam Deleo solo home run in the second inning. But from that point on, AirHogs pitching buckled down, allowing just three more El Paso hits on the night. Grand Prairie reliever Jon Hunton picked up the win after throwing a perfect ninth with one strikeout.
Shreveport-Bossier 7, Fort Worth 5
Having just seen his team's one-run lead evaporate into a tie, Shreveport-Bossier LF Palmer Karr Jr. stepped up for the Captains. With two men on and and two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Karr Jr. hit his third home run of the season and put his club on top for good. The homer was one of Karr Jr.'s three hits, tying him for game-high honors with the Cats' Marcos Rodriguez. Karr's three RBI were also a game best. The Captains' Richard Salazer earned the win in a four-run outing stretched over seven innings.
Sioux Falls 10, Fargo-Moorhead 7
Not men to rest on their laurels - or a 7-4 lead - the Pheasants put three more runs on the board in the sixth and seventh frames to stretch their advantage to 10-7. Those runs proved crucial, as Fargo-Moorhead answered back with three runs in the eighth and ninth. But the RedHawks' comeback attempt fell three runs short when Pheasants pitcher Dan McDaniel struck out Kole Zimmerman on six pitches. McDaniel preserved the win for Pheasants starter Adam Cowert, who threw 7.1 innings and allowed five runs on 11 hits. RedHawks SS Zach Penprase went 2-for-4 with three runs and brought his season average up to .293.
