
Sox Hang on Against Wingnuts

Wichita Wingnuts News Release
AMARILLO, TX- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 6-4 to the Amarillo Sox at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium on Saturday night.
Amarillo scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the second to build a 4-1 lead that they held through the end of the game. Van Pope hit a groundball double to deep center field that scored Cyle Hankerd from second base. Chris Nash followed with an RBI single down the left field line. Kevin Butler pinch ran for Nash, and after Tim Alberts drew a walk, Benji Johnson doubled down the left field line to score Butler and give Amarillo a 4-1 lead.
The Sox tacked on an unearned run in the sixth against starter Ryan Hinson. Tim Alberts, who led off the inning with a double, scored on a two-out popfly that broke off of Josh Horn's glove in shallow center field.
Hinson took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, in six innings. Hinson struck out seven and walked three while allowing nine hits.
Hankerd hit a solo home run leading off the bottom of the seventh against Brandon Mathes for Amarillo's sixth run.
The Wingnuts rallied for a run in the eighth and two in the ninth before Gary Perinar relieved Austin Chambliss to earn the save. Perinar took over with a runner on first and no outs and struck out the side.
An error by Pope at third base scored Brent Clevlen in the eighth inning. Clevlen reached second on a one-out double to left-center. An error by shortstop Jason White and an RBI double from Clevlen accounted for the Wingnuts' runs in the ninth inning.
Colin Allen earned the win for Amarillo, allowing one earned run over seven innings. Allen allowed seven hits, walked two, and struck out four.
Michael Cotter worked a scoreless bottom of the eighth for the Wingnuts.
