Owen Sound Attack News Release

The young Attack roster showed great persistence as they came back from a three goal deficit to beat the Flint Firebirds 8-4 Friday night.

It was a rough start for Owen Sound, as they continued they played their first game south of the boarder. It was Flint's teddy bear toss night and the Attack looked determined early on to keep the bears in the stands, but an odd man rush for the Firebirds, provided an open rebound opportunity and the home team took advantage, as they jumped out to an early lead. Shortly after Attack captain Mark Woolley got called for a 5-minute major for checking from behind and the Firebirds made the most of the five minute power play, scoring twice with the extra man.

Owen Sound would get on the board just over halfway through the opening period, as Colby Barlow tipped home his fourth goal against Flint in just three games.

Flint would regain their three goal lead, when star Brennan Othmann picked off a cross ice pass and buried on the break away. Owen Sound would not get deterred as they continued to push to get back in the game and were rewarded late in the second period. It was assistant captain Stepan Machacek who banged home a rebound attempt, with Ethan Burroughs pulling the Attack within a goal just 10 seconds later.

The Attack came out hungry in the third period, as they would press the Firebirds, who were short players to begin and started to show their exhaustion. Burroughs would tie the game after having a rebound bounce off him as he crashed the net, before Servac Petrovsky potted a pair and put the Attack up by a two with less that 10 minutes to play.

Deni Goure would add an empty netter, to give him a three point night, with Logan LeSage potting his second of the year in the final minute to cap the scoring at 8.

Nick Chenard who began the game with a highlight reel save on an Othmann break away, would stand tall after surrounding three goals in the opening frame, and provided the Attack the opportunity to make the come back.

Owen Sound will look to win the season series against Flint tomorrow night as they conclude their road trip, before coming home for a big game against the Kitchener Rangers at the Bayshore next Wednesday night.
