Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. Finishing out a 2-game eastern road swing over the weekend, the Hamilton Bulldogs made their way to TD Place on Saturday afternoon to square off with the Ottawa 67s.
Loosing another pair of players prior to puck drop with the absences of Navrin Mutter & Nathan Staios, it was the young players who stepped up in the opening frame. At 10:07 Alex Pharand tracked the puck behind the net on the right side, stripping it from an Ottawa defender and sent a backhand feed to Cole Brown on the doorstep who made no mistake, shelving the puck for his 3rd goal of the year giving the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead. Matteo Drobac picked up where he left off a night earlier, stopping 10 of 11 in the opening period but Ottawa would knot the score at 1-1 through Vinzenz Rohrer on the power-play at 13:34 which is where the score would stand through 20 minutes.
With the confidence instilled from their goaltender the Bulldogs blew the second frame wide open beginning with Lawson Sherk's 6th of the season from Mark Duarte & Jorian Donovan at 5:45 giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. Sherk's goal was quickly followed by Avery Hayes, faking out a defender at the top of the right circle and recording his 13th goal of the season from Gavin White & Chandler Romeo at 6:36.
The offensive onslaught continued at 12:38 with Gavin White sending a rocket past Will Cranley on the power-play from George Diaco & Logan Morrison giving the Bulldogs a 5-1 lead. Just under two minutes later, Logan Morrison would rifle a slot top shot past Cranley from Avery Hayes extending the lead to 6-1 at 14:18. Before the period was out Avery Hayes would work a little more magic cashing a triangle passing play from Humphrey & Morrison at 19:53 sending the Bulldogs to the room with a 6-1 lead.
The third period would open with Lucas Moore recording his first OHL goal on a right point shot at 3:36 with Noah Roberts garnering his first OHL assists & point on the play. Brad Gardiner would add one for Ottawa at 9:23 before Lawson Sherk dropped the puck off at the top of the left circle for George Diaco to rip home for his 11th of the season at 15:11. Ottawa would add one more through Luca Pinelli at 16:19 to get the game to 8-3 but that's as close as the 67s would get thanks to 36 Matteo Drobac saves in a 8-3 Bulldogs victory.
The Hamilton Bulldogs return to action for a pair of home games next week hosting the Mississauga Steelheads on Wednesday, December 15th and the Peterborough Petes of Friday, December 17th for the return of the toy & toque toss game with both games beginning at 7:00pm.
