Ottawa 67's News Release

Though it was close until the end, the Ottawa 67's dropped a 5-1 decision to the Oshawa Generals on Friday night.

Alec Belanger scored his first of year to get the Barber Poles on the board, and Will Cranley turned in another 30-save gem, but two empty-net goals gave the Generals a four-goal win.

Oshawa struck first, 6:55 in, with Kevin Niedenz scoring the first of his OHL career. It didn't take the 67's long to respond however, with Belanger's first goal in 23 games tying this one. less than four minutes later. Vinzenz Rohrer received a pass from Alex Johnston, streaking into the Oshawa zone, and threw the puck to Belanger in front. His shot bounced in off a Generals defender, and knotted the game up at 1-1.

After a back-and-forth second period, the Generals scored on a Ty Tullio shot with four seconds remaining.

In the third, Stuart Rolofs tipped home an insurance marker - despite a furious Barber Poles rally - before Brett Harrison and Ryan Gagnier both added late empty-netters to give Oshawa the win.

Game Notes:

The goal was Belanger's first since February 9, 2020.

Will Cranley has made 30 or more saves in each of his last four starts.

Alex Johnston has two assists through his first two games with the Barber Poles.

Up Next: It's a quick turnaround for the 67's who host the Hamilton Bulldogs in their Ugly Christmas Sweater game, tomorrow at 2:00pm EST.
