Saginaw Spirit News Release

Saginaw, MI - Saginaw Spirit General Manager Dave Drinkill announced Friday the team has completed a trade with the Mississauga Steelheads acquiring 17-year-old right winger Carson Christy in exchange for a conditional 10th round pick in 2025 (SAG). The conditional 10th round pick becomes a 5th round pick in 2025 (SAG) if Christy plays in one (1) game for the Saginaw Spirit.

"We want to welcome Carson and his family to Saginaw, said Drinkill. "As an organization, we are thrilled to be able to add a player of his ability to our young group of forwards. Carson was a player we really liked in his draft year and we feel he can come into the OHL and continue to score just as he did in minor hockey. We are looking forward to having Christy in the line-up at some point in the new year as he continues to recover from off-season wrist surgery. As a staff we can't wait to get him into our system and on the ice here in Saginaw."

The Oshawa, Ontario native has missed the entirety of the of the 2021-22 season because of off-season wrist surgery, but the Spirit expect Christy will dress in their lineup in the second half of the season.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Christy was selected by the Mississauga Steelheads in the second round, 38th overall, during the 2020 OHL Under-17 Priority Selection Draft. Christy finished first in goals scored and third in points in the entire Eastern AAA Hockey League at the Under-16 level during the 2019-20 season after scoring 41 goals and 21 assists for 62 points in 36 games. Being a late birthday Christy is eligible for the 2023 NHL draft.

Carson Christy will wear No. 92 for the Spirit.
