Owen Sound Attack News Release

It was four outstanding games, and at the end it was the Owen Sound Attack who took three of four from the Flint Firebirds, capping the season series with a big 4-3 win Saturday night.

It was a great start for the Attack as they jumped out to a first period two goal lead, but needed a late third period push to earn the victory, with Cedrick Guindon potting the go-ahead goal with under four minutes to play.

It was Logan LeSage and Ethan Burroughs opening the scoring just over two minutes apart, around the mid-way point of the opening period. It was LeSage's second goal in as many games, and Burroughs netted his third of the weekend.

Flint would comeback in the second, as they capitalized on a pair of power play opportunities to even the game. Owen Sound thought they had regained the lead late in the second, but the goal was called back as Deni Goure was called for incidental goalie contact.

The Attack then had a rough start to the final period, as Firebirds star Brennan Othmann scored just 10 seconds after puck drop, giving the home side their first lead of the night. After coming back from a three goal deficit the previous night, the Attack again needed a third period comeback in Flint.

It was William Portokalis, who scored his 6th goal since joining the Attack, as he banged home a loose puck, late during the team's second power play opportunity of the night.

In net Nick Chenard got the start for the back-to-back and after giving up the Othmann goal, was steady throughout the third as the Firebirds looked to increase their lead. The Attack net minder kept his team in the game for a second straight night, and the team rewarded him with Guindon's goal late, to give the 19-year old net minder his 6th win of the season.

Owen Sound will now return home for a Wednesday night match-up against the Kitchener Rangers at the Bayshore. They will conclude their schedule before going on the Christmas break, with a Friday night in London, and returning to the Bayshore next Saturday when they welcome Sarina.
