New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- Luis Perez worked 6.2 strong innings, increasing his league-leading total to 151.1 innings pitched, and Brian Jeroloman added a run-scoring single, but the Harrisburg Senators edged the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4-1 before a Tuesday night crowd of 5,162 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
Perez (8-11), who surrendered four runs -three earned- on five hits, with two strikeouts and three walks, leapfrogged Ismael Ramirez (150.2 IP/2005) and Kyle Yates (151.0 IP/2007) to move into sole possession of fourth place on the Fisher Cats' all-time, single-season innings-pitched list.
Harrisburg (62-65) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third against Perez, courtesy of an unearned run. Marvin Lowrance (0-for-3, BB) walked, Sean Rooney (1-for-4, R) bounced a single to left and Francisco Plasencia (0-for-4) reached on a bunt when Jeroloman committed a throwing error, loading the bases. Jemel Spearman (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, SB) then plated Rooney with a run-scoring ground out.
Luke Montz (1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) built the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth when he took Perez deep to the patio in left-centerfield for a two-run homer, his eighth, scoring Chris Marrero (2-for-2, 2 BB, R), who led off the frame with a walk.
The Fisher Cats (58-70) bounced back in the home half of the fourth against Jeff Mandel. Nick Gorneault (1-for-4, R) lined a lead-off single to center, Darin Mastroianni (0-for-2, BB, SAC) sacrificed him to second and Jeroloman (1-for-4, RBI) grounded an RBI single to right, trimming the Senators' lead to 3-1.
That was all New Hampshire would muster against Mandel (4-1), who fanned three, walked four and scattered three hits over five innings. Jesse Estrada followed with three one-hit innings, including a pair of strikeouts, and Carlos Martinez earned his second save in three chances with a perfect ninth.
Harrisburg added a run off Perez in the seventh when Freddie Bynum (0-for-3, BB, 2 SB, R) walked, stole second base, swiped third and scored when Spearman singled off reliever Leon Boyd for a 4-1 lead.
New Hampshire right-hander Sean Smith (3-3, 2.84) gets the nod at 7:05pm on Wednesday night against Harrisburg left-hander Justin Jones (4-12, 4.80) in the middle game of the three-game series at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The BayRing Pre-Game Show begins at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
The first 2,000 fans in attendance on Wednesday night will receive a free Jonathan Papelbon Bobble Leg, courtesy of Quirk Chevrolet Buick Hummer. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
