Aerodynamics...

Beau Knows Drama...Akron squeaked past Erie by a final count of 3-1 last night, as 1B Beau Mills provided the winning margin with a three-run homer down the right field line with two down in the top of the eighth inning. The Aeros had recorded just one hit through the first seven innings, and SeaWolves co-closer Cody Satterwhite retired the first two batters before Jose Constazna sparked the rally with an opposite-field double in his first pinch-hit appearance of the season. C Carlos Santana then worked a walk to set the stage for Mills, who was out in front of a 2-2 changeup down and away from Satterwhite yet still managed to one-hand it over the fence. The ball actually hit off the top of the wall, caromed against the netting protecting the parking lot and then bounced onto the field which led to a brief argument, but first base umpire Doug Levy was in perfect position to make the call and signaled home run immediately. It was Mills' second home run of the series and fifth (out of 13) in Erie.

From Start to Finish...The Aeros received a tremendous pitching performance from the trio of LHP Eric Berger and RHPs Steven Wright and Josh Judy last night in the win, as the three combined to hold Erie to five singles while setting a new season-high with 15 strikeouts. Berger started and allowed a run in the bottom of the first before settling in, while Wright earned his 10th win with two scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh. Judy was perhaps the most impressive however, as the closer entered in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run lead only to allow a single and a walk with one down. The native of West Virginia recovered beautifully however, striking out the dangerous Ryan Strieby and Casper Wells to close the inning and then punching out the side in order in the ninth. All six of Judy's outs came via strikeout, while Akron's last seven outs of the game overall were via the K (Wright got Shawn Rood looking to end the seventh).

Closing In...New Britain polished off a four-game sweep of Reading last night, defeating the Phillies 6-3 and bringing the Aeros ever closer to the precipice of the Southern Division crown. Akron's magic number is now five to clinch the division over Reading, while the magic number to claim a playoff spot is down to four over Erie and two over Bowie. The Aeros can eliminate Bowie from division contention with a win tonight, although the Baysox would still be alive for the wild card spot.

Livingston, I Presume...LHP Bobby Livingston is back with the club and will face his former team tonight in series opener. The southpaw began the year with Bowie and made one relief appearance with Class AAA Columbus before coming back to Akron.

Did You Know...The Aeros are two victories away from becoming the first team in Eastern League history with 80 wins in five consecutive seasons. Akron is currently tied with the West Haven Yankees, who had four straight 80-win seasons from 1976-79.
