Perez Homers But Baysox Get Clipped in Altoona
May 7, 2019 - Eastern League (EL1)
Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Altoona, PA - The Baysox battled back from an early deficit but just fell short in a 3-2 Tuesday evening defeat in Altoona, PA.
Down 3-0 in the fourth inning, the Baysox got on the board on a big blast from C Carlos Perez. He lifted a long two-run home run over the left field wall and the bleachers to bring the Baysox within 3-2. For Perez it was his second home run of the series and the season. Perez has driven home six runs in the series.
The Baysox nearly came all the way back in the sixth. Rylan Bannon singled and reached second on a walk by Ademar Rifaela. With two down, Martin Cervenka lined a sharp liner to centerfield and Bannon came around to the plate. The throw from center came in just as Bannon started his slide and he was called out on the bang-bang play at the plate. The Baysox argued the call to no avail.
Bowie would also knock on the door in the eighth inning. Mason McCoy singled to right-center, went to second on a sac-bunt by Ryan McKenna and moved to third on a groundout by Bannon. Rifaela then chopped out to second to end the frame keeping the score at 3-2.
Zac Lowther started and finished strong for Bowie. He retired 10 of the final 11 batters faced, allowing three runs, two of which earned in six innings. Francisco Jimenez made his second Eastern League outing working two scoreless frames to keep the Baysox in it.
The Baysox look to take the rubber match of the series Wednesday morning as LHP Alex Wells is toes the bump. Coverage begins 20-minutes prior on wnav.com, baysox.com and via the Tune-In App by searching Baysox.
And the Baysox head home for a weekend series with Richmond beginning Friday, May 10th at 7:05 p.m. Get tickets at 301-464-4865 or purchase online at baysox.com.
