Yard Goats take first meeting with 3-2 win in 10

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Reading, PA) - The Fightin Phils have made a habit of playing extra-inning games lately, with all three wins over the weekend in Akron coming that way. In Tuesday night's series opener against the Yard Goats, the teams flew through nine innings in a well-pitched game between David Parkinson and Ashton Goudeau. Cornelius Randolph's two-run homer provided the only offense for the R-Phils, and Vance Vizcaino's double in the tenth won it in two hours and 26 minutes before a crowd of 4,596 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Goudeau came into the game as one of the hottest pitchers in the Eastern League, riding a franchise-record scoreless innings streak of 23.0 innings. The Fightins nearly ended it in the first when they loaded the bases on a single by Adam Haseley, a walk to Luke Williams, and a hit by pitch that caught Austin Listi. Darick Hall struck out and Randolph grounded out to first to get Goudeau through the inning.
Parkinson saved his best for his third home start, allowing just a pair of hits over his first four innings while racking up three strikeouts. The support arrived in the bottom of the fourth when Listi reached for the second time with a leadoff walk and Randolph lined an opposite field home run to left for his fourth longball and a 2-0 lead. Goudeau retired eight of the last nine batters he encountered, finishing with nine strikeouts over six to lower his earned run average to a paltry 1.87.
The 'Goats tied the score during Parkinson's final inning in the sixth, with center fielder Manny Melendez setting the table with a one out single. A wild pitch pushed him to second, and Tyler Nevin made it a one-run game with a double. With two outs, Vince Fernandez tied the score with a single back up the middle, and Parkinson left with a no decision despite pitching well through six.
Both bullpens were really sharp as well, with the Fightins failing to capitalize on Listi's leadoff single that put the winning run at first base in the ninth against Logan Cozart (2-0). In the top of the tenth, Vance Vizcaino came through with his second hit of the night despite not starting the game, and his leadoff double turned out to be the game-winner. Lefthander Ben Bowden picked up his 10th save, inducing a lineout double play off the bat of Henri Lartigue and a strikeout to end the ballgame.
