Red Wings left-hander Pat Dean had pitched well against Pawtucket in his career, coming into Tuesday's game with a 3-0 record and a 1.20 ERA in five starts vs. the PawSox. Dean struck out lead-off batter Deven Marrero to open the game, but a single, fielding error, and a bloop single pushed across an unearned run for an early 1-0 Pawtucket lead.

Pawtucket's starter, right-hander O'Sullivan, has had 12 strikeouts and one walk during his first two starts in 2016. In the bottom of the first, O'Sullivan walked both Darin Mastroianni and Kennys Vargas; however, Buck Britton ended the inning with a flyball stranding runners on first and second.

Wilfredo Tovar led off in the bottom of the third for Rochester, and hit a single to start the inning off strong. The single extends his current hitting streak to four games. During Mastroianni's at-bat Tovar stole second base, and advanced to third thanks to Mastroianni's sacrifice bunt. Beresford's flyout to left brought Tovar home, notching the first tally of the game for the Red Wings. After three innings, the game was tied 1-1.

Travis started the top of the fourth off with a double for the PawSox, his second hit of the game. Dean recovered by striking out Justin Maxwell; however, with two outs and a runner on second, Chris Marerro homered to left giving Pawtucket a two-run lead 3-1.

At the start of the fifth, the PawSox had runners on first and third with no outs due to a costly triple and a walk. During the next at-bat, Tovar started a much-needed double play; unfortunately, the fourth run of the game crossed home plate for Pawtucket to make 4-1.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Tovar was hit by a pitch, and stole his second base of the game to give the Red Wings a scoring opportunity. Mastroianni struck out to end the inning, leaving a third Red Wing left on-base so far in the game.

Dean (0-3) started the sixth inning and allowed a single, then was lifted for right-hander Loek van Mil. The PawSox clipped van Mil for a single, followed by a two-run double by Maxwell which pushed the lead to 6-1.

Dean worked 5+ innings with six hits and five runs (four earned runs) allowed, walking two and striking out four. Dean threw 85 pitches, 55 for strikes.

In the bottom of the sixth, Beresford hustled to second base to start off the inning with a double for Rochester. The squad could not keep the momentum going as the next three batters hit flyouts to wrap up another scoreless effort.

van Mil's woes continued into the top of the seventh starting off with a lead-off home run by Sean Coyle. Travis secured his fourth hit of the game with a runner in scoring position, enabling the PawSox to add another tally to their score. Next up, Maxwell had his second double of the game to bring home Travis. Following Maxwell's at-bat, left-hander Dan Runzler relieved van Mil. With two outs in the inning and a runner on-base, Runzler struck out Dan Butler to finish the inning. After seven innings, Rochester trailed 9-1.

David Murphy lined a home run off O'Sullivan with one out in the bottom of the seventh, his first extra base hit since joining the team last week. O'Sullivan (2-1) got one more out then was lifted after pitching 6.2 innings, allowing just three hits and two earned runs, with two walks and five strikeouts. O'Sullivan threw 99 pitches, 65 for strikes.

The Wings worked reliever Roman Mendez for a pair of walks to open the bottom of the eighth inning, After a flyout, Vargas drilled a double off the top of the wall in right field, bringing in a run to make the score 9-3. A groundout from Britton brought in another run, for a 9-4 score.

Buddy Boshers pitched the ninth inning for the Red Wings.

The Wings managed to score more than one run for the just the third time in the last nine games. Pawtucket out-hit the Red Wings 12-4.

Tovar had a hit and stole two bases.
