Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) received a strong performance by the pitching staff and a big night at the plate for Aaron Judge as they shutout the Buffalo Bisons 7-0. The win improves SWB to 8-4 while the Bisons slip to 5-8.
Tyler Cloyd (1-0) became the first SWB starter to pitch into the seventh inning, scattering four hits across 6.2 scoreless innings. He walked one and struck out four. Scott Diamond (2-1) shouldered his first loss of the season, getting hit for six runs, five earned, on five hits over 4.2 innings.
Judge broke the seal on the game's scoring in the third inning. Chris Parmelee opened the frame with a single and Ben Gamel worked a one-out walk to bring up Judge. The RailRiders' right fielder launched an 0-1 pitch onto the pedestrian bridge for a three-run homer. It was his second round-tripper of the year.
Judge added a sacrifice fly as part of a three-run fifth inning for his fourth RBI. He finished one off his career high. Two Bisons errors and a ball lost in the lights aided the RailRiders in the frame. Gary Sanchez raced around the bags to earn his first triple since 2012 when Dalton Pompey lost the ball in center field and Rob Refnsyder scored for a 6-0 advantage.
Slade Heathcott made it a collective cycle for the RailRiders curling a double to left. He came home from third when Sanchez reached on a fielding error by second baseman David Adams to cap the scoring.
Conor Mullee finished the game for SWB. He allowed one hit and struck out three in his 2.1 innings of work.
The RailRiders series against Buffalo (Toronto Blue Jays) continues with on Wednesday night at PNC Field. Right-hander Anthony Swarzak (0-1, 5.63) opposes Bisons southpaw Wade LeBlanc (1-1, 2.38). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
