Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky - The Louisville Bats fell to the Columbus Clippers in the middle game of their three game series Tuesday night, 1-0. The Bats started RHP Keyvius Sampson (NR) against RHP Will Roberts (0-1, 6.75) of the Clippers. Columbus pushed a run across in the top of the fourth inning and the Bats were unable to counter.

Sampson pitched three and one-third innings, allowing one hit, one run and three walks. Despite the three walks, Sampson managed to get out of a few tight spots by pitching to contact and earning two strikeouts. He took the loss for the Bats.

Relief RHP Chad Rogers came in to finish the top of the fourth for the Bats and pitched just one additional inning before RHP Stephen Johnson came on in the sixth inning. Johnson allowed two hits, but no runs and finished with two strikeouts. RHP Pedro Villarreal finished the remainder of the game with no runs, no hits and two strikeouts.

In the fourth and fifth innings, the Bats loaded the bases with only one out, but both instances proved fruitless and they couldn't put a run on the scoreboard.

The only run of the evening came in the top of the fourth inning for the Clippers after RF Jordan Smith hit into a fielder's choice to second, scoring 2B Joey Butler from third.

The Bats will finish the series against Columbus tomorrow at 11:05 AM with RHP Tim Adleman (0-0, 5.40) against Clippers RHP Mike Clevinger (1-0, 1.80).
