
Johnson Promoted to Chicago, Shuck to Join Knights

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - RHP Erik Johnson, who was the International League's Most Valuable Pitcher last season after posting an 11-8 record with a 2.37 ERA with the Charlotte Knights, was recalled by the Chicago White Sox today. Johnson, 26, will take the roster spot of outfielder J. B. Shuck, who was optioned to the Knights from Chicago after last night's White Sox game. In another roster move today, RHP John Holdzkom was signed by Chicago and assigned to Charlotte. Holdzkom has been placed on Charlotte's disabled list (retroactive to April 18). Charlotte's active roster is now set at 25 with an additional five players on the disabled list.
Johnson has started two games for the Knights this season and is 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched. The California native has struck-out 12 batters in two starts this year. Johnson was a 2015 International League Midseason and Postseason All-Star. He led the IL last year in ERA (2.37) and strikeouts (136). Johnson was originally drafted by the White Sox in the second round of the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft.
Shuck, 28, appeared in four game with the White Sox this season (three starts) and was 0-for-9 at the plate. The Ohio State University product was claimed off waivers by Chicago from the Cleveland Indians on November 3, 2014. He appeared in 79 games with the White Sox last season and posted a .266 batting average (38-for-143). Shuck was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the sixth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.
Holdzkom, 28, made 21 appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis last season and posted a 2-0 record with a 3.22 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched. The 6'9" right-hander was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the fourth round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.
The Knights will continue their three-game series against the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) tonight at 7:05 p.m. Eight-time Major League Baseball All-Star Darryl Strawberry will meet fans and sign autographs. Tonight is Twitter Tuesday at the ballpark presented by BB&T and the first 3,000 fans will receive a BB&T Ballpark Scoreboard Desktop Clock courtesy of BB&T.
