MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (JULY 13, 2015) -- The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, have activated right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn from the 7-day disabled list. Blackburn missed 26 games and is expected to make the start in the homestand finale against the Carolina Mudcats on Monday night at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

Blackburn, 21, was placed on the disabled list on June 15 and hasn't played since a loss at Frederick on June 11. In 10 starts with the Pelicans this year, the native of Antioch, Calif., has pitched to a 4-3 record and a 4.66 ERA. While batters hit .300 off the right-hander, Blackburn racked up 34 strikeouts and walked 13 in his 48 1/3 innings pitched. After a string of four straight starts between May 16 June 5 in which he allowed two or fewer runs, Blackburn surrendered a career-high six runs, all earned, at Frederick on June 11.

He is expected to return to the mound for his first start since coming off the disabled list on Monday, July 13, in a contest against the Carolina Mudcats. The first pitch from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Selected by the Cubs in the first round (56th overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Heritage High School in Brentwood, Calif., Blackburn is the highest-drafted player on the Pelicans roster. He is also the eighteenth-best prospect in the Cubs' minor league system according to Baseball America and ranks 24th on MLBPipeline.com's Top 30 Prospects list.

The Pelicans roster is now at 25 active players, the Carolina League limit, and includes six players on the disabled list as well as one on the inactive list.

The 2015 season marks the 17th season for the Pelicans franchise and first as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. For information on tickets to see the Pelicans in 2015, please call (843) 918-6000, e-mail info@myrtlebeachpelicans.com, or visit www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
