Potomac Nationals News Release
Winston-Salem, NC-The Potomac Nationals (44-43 Overall, 19-24 Road, 11-6 Second-Half) and Winston-Salem Dash (40-47 Overall, 21-23 Home, 10-7 Second-Half) were suspended on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark with the Dash leading 3-1 headed to the bottom of the 3rd inning due to a series of torrential thunderstorms carrying consistent lightning.
The ballgame went into a thunderstorm delay at 7:45pm in the middle of the 3rd, and after approximately an hour into the stoppage, the clash was frozen due to the threat of approaching storms.
With Potomac not scheduled to return to Winston-Salem, NC during the 2015 Carolina League regular season, the completion of this suspended contest will be slated during Winston-Salem's August 11th to August 13th series at Pfitzner Stadium. The Dash will serve as the home team in the to-be-announced completion of this suspended affair.
Winston-Salem got out to an early 3-0 lead in the 1st frame as Dash 1B Keon Barnum clubbed a mammoth two-run home run to right-center field off Nationals LHP Matt Purke. The no-doubt bomb was Barnum's fourth home run clout of the 2015 campaign. Winston-Salem DH Jeremy Dowdy added an RBI single grounded into center field.
The Nationals scored their lone run off Dash LHP Brian Clark in the top of the 3rd via a run-scoring double slapped into the left field corner by Potomac CF Narciso Mesa that scored P-Nats LF Cody Dent.
After a league-wide scheduled off-day tomorrow, the P-Nats will usher in the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs) for a four-game series from Wednesday, July 15th to Saturday, July 18th.
Potomac RHP John Simms (5-5, 2.89) will oppose Myrtle Beach LHP Michael Heesch (5-0, 1.62) in the series opener at Pfitzner Stadium on Wednesday night.
Action will get underway for a Bellybuster event at The Pfitz with a 7:05pm first pitch.
The Potomac Nationals Baseball Network will carry live coverage of the game beginning with the "P-Nats Lead-Off Show" at 6:50pm before the live play-by-play at 7:05pm. P-Nats Gameday Audio on the Potomac Nationals Baseball Network is accessible at www.potomacnationals.com or with the TuneIn Radio App.
