ZEBULON, NC - The Carolina Mudcats, the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and member of the historic Carolina League, are proud to announce today that outfielder Connor Lien was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week ending on July 12.
Lien hit .375/.429/.667 over the last seven games and was 9-for-24 with a double, two home runs and six RBI. He also stole five bases, scored three runs and assisted three putouts at home over the last seven games. He is the second Mudcats player to have earned Player of the Week honors this season.
Lien kicked off his run toward the Player of the Week title with a double, a stolen base and a 2-for-4 performance against the Red Sox in a 7-2 Carolina loss at LewisGale Field on July 7. Carolina went on to win its next game 4-3 on July 8 in Salem and Lien happened to lead off that same game with a home run. Lien was 1-for-4 with a first pitch, leadoff home run and threw out the potential tying run at home in the eighth on July 8.
The Mudcats finished their series win against the Red Sox on July 9 and Lien broke out with a 4-for-5 game against the Red Sox in the finale. He collected three singles, a home run, three stolen bases and drove in three runs on July 9 and the Mudcats won the game 9-4. Lien's two-run home run in the eighth was his second in the series and his fifth of the season. He also brought his stolen base total to a career best 19 while setting a new career best with three steals in one game on July 9 in Salem.
Carolina continued its road trip in Myrtle Beach on July 10 and Lien was held without a hit for the first time during their road trip. He was 0-for-2 in the game, but drove in one run with a sacrifice fly and helped convert two double plays. Lien caught two runners attempting to tag and score on flyouts to right in the game and the Mudcats completed a season high four double plays in a 2-1 loss to the Pelicans.
Lien continued the weekend series in Myrtle Beach with hits in back-to-back games on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12. He was 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base on July 11 and 1-for-3 with a RBI on July 12.
Lien is batting .291/.342/.425 with 74 hits, 14 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 27 RBI over 77 games this season for the Mudcats. He leads his club with 20 stolen bases and also the team leader in hits and on-base percentage (.342).
The Mudcats return to Five County Stadium for a four game series with the Winston-Salem Dash on Wednesday, July 15. Wednesday's game is the first of seven straight in Zebulon. It is also the first game of a homestand that will feature an appearance by Ryan Klesko on Thursday, July 16, a snow globe giveaway on Saturday, July 18 and an appearance by the SweetRight Brothers on Sunday, July 19.
The Carolina Mudcats are the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The 2015 "Braves New World" season is the first for the Mudcats as an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and their fourth straight in the historic Carolina League.
