Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - Tommy Parsons spun eight shutout innings and the Peoria Chiefs used two big innings to even the series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with a 9-0 win at Dozer Park Tuesday night. The teams have a quick turnaround for Wednesday's 11:05 a.m. Education Day tilt with Peoria at 2-4 on the season and Wisconsin at 4-2.
The Chiefs wasted little time getting on the board against Wisconsin starter Scott Sunitsch. Brandon Riley led off the first inning with a single and moved to second on a single by Brady Whalen. The Chiefs took a 1-0 lead on a two-out single by Leandro Cedeno
Parsons cruised through the Wisconsin lineup with efficient innings and the first 12 retired and one strikeout. The Chiefs broke the game open and got into the Wisconsin bullpen in the fourth inning. Cedeno and Lars Nootbaar singled to put runners on the corners with one out. Delvin Perez drove a single to center for a 2-0 lead and Wadye Ynfante walked to load the bases. Riley doubled into the right-field corner to score two for a 4-0 lead and Nolan Gorman's sacrifice fly put the Chiefs on top by five.
Parsons got another 1-2-3 inning in the fifth and retired the leadoff man in the sixth. His 49th pitch of the game was lined up the middle for a single by Jesus Lujano to give Wisconsin their first base runner of the game.
The Chiefs added on in the sixth against reliever Logan Gillaspie. Ivan Herrera walked, Perez singled and Ynfante singled to load the bases again. Riley's second bases-loaded double of the night scored two more runs and put the Chiefs on top 7-0. Gorman singled home Ynfante for an 8-0 lead and Chad Whitmer took over on the mound for the Rattlers. Whalen greeted the new reliever with a double to right-center to cap the scoring at 9-0.
Parsons (2-0) earned the win with a career-high eight shutout innings. He scattered four hits and struck out four without issuing a walk. Edgar Escobar threw the final inning as he struck out one in a perfect frame.
The Chiefs continue a four-game series at home against Wisconsin, Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. Promotions can be found on the team website or social media accounts. The Chiefs will start RH Alvaro Seijas (0-1, 11.57) against Wisconsin LH Wilfred Salaman (0-1, 10.38).
