Chiefs Shut Out Rattlers

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs ended a pair of streaks with a 9-0 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday night at Dozer Park. Wisconsin's three-game winning streak and Peoria three-game losing streak were snapped with the result of the Midwest League contest.

The Chiefs (2-4) grabbed the early lead with a run on three hits in the first inning. Leandro Cedeno knocked in a run with a two-out single in the frame and Peoria was on top.

Peoria knocked Wisconsin starting pitcher Scott Sunitsch out of the game in the fourth inning as they scored four runs on four hits before Sunitsch could find the third out. The inning started with back-to-back singles. A grounder to third led to a force out at second for the first out, but the relay to first couldn't be scooped and the possible double play went by the boards to leave the Chiefs with runners on the corners. Delvin Perez drove in the first run of the inning with a single.

Sunitsch walked the next batter to load the bases. Then, Brandon Riley ripped a double to right on a 3-2 pitch to score two runs. Nolan Gorman plated the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly and the Chiefs were up 5-0.

Wisconsin (4-2) struggled to get anything going in the game against Peoria starter Tommy Parsons. The right-hander retired the first sixteen Timber Rattlers he faced in the game. Jesús Lujano broke up the no-hit bid with a one-out single to center in the sixth inning. He would steal second and third, but be left stranded when the inning ended.

The Chiefs tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The first three batters of the inning reached base against reliever Logan Gillaspie. Brandon Riley drove in two of those runners with his second two-run double of the game. Gorman followed with an RBI single to chase Gillaspie from the game.

Brady Whalen greeted reliever Chad Whitmer with an RBI double and the Chiefs were up 9-0.

That was it for the scoring in the game.

Wisconsin did add three more singles against Parsons. Chad McClanahan and Yeison Coca had back-to-back singles with two outs in the seventh and Connor McVey singled to start the eighth. Parsons didn't walk a batter and struck out four over eight innings. He is 2-0 and has not allowed a run over thirteen innings in two starts for the Chiefs this season.

Edgar Escobar took over for Parsons to start the top of the ninth inning and he tossed a 1-2-3 inning to finish the game.

Game three of the series is set to start on Wednesday morning at Dozer Park. Wilfred Salaman (0-1, 10.38) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Peoria has named Alvaro Seijas (0-1, 11.57) as their starter. Game time is 11:05pm. The broadcast is on AM1280, WNAM and the TuneIn Radio app starting with the Papa John's Pizza Pregame Show at 10:45am. The game is also available to subscribers of MiLB.tv.
