Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL â The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, announced today that relievers Connor Robertson and Scot Drucker have been promoted to High-A Stockton in the California League. The Cougars, in return, welcome relief pitchers J.R. Pickens and Jose Corchado from the Stockton Ports. The Cougars also announced Thursday that left-handed pitcher James Heuser has been placed on the disabled list with a left elbow sprain.
Robertson worked in 20 games for Kane County, posting a 2-2 record with a 2.93 ERA. He struck out a whopping 47 batters in 20 games and 27 2/3 innings. He also recorded a save May 13 in South Bend. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native led the Arizona League in saves (13) and games pitched (25) last season with the Arizona League A's, earning a spot on the Arizona post-season All-Star team. Oakland drafted the right-hander in the 31st round last June out of Birmingham Southern College.
Drucker saved 11 games for the Cougars and made 21 appearances on the mound, going 2-3 with a 2.86 ERA. As of May 25, Drucker's 21 appearances tied him for second most in the Midwest League. The former University of Tennessee Volunteer was selected by Oakland in the 13th round last June and saved six games for Vancouver in the Northwest League in 2004.
Heuser moves to the disabled list after 18 outings with Kane County. He was 0-2 with a 4.30 ERA. The situational southpaw from Peru, Illinois held batters to a .212 average.
Corchado and Pickens each spent the 2004 campaign with the Cougars. Corchado was 5-5 with a 3.12 ERA in 33 games (6 starts). In Stockton, the 18th-round pick of 2002 took the mound four times, going 0-1 with an 11.81 ERA.
Pickens had a 6-2 record with a 3.44 ERA in 54 relief appearances a year ago for the Cougars. He was tied for the Ports' team-high in games pitched with 15 before his return to the Midwest League. Oakland's 10th-round pick of 2002 was 1-1 with an ERA at 7.08.
Even with Thursday's player movement, the Cougars roster contains one open spot. The team concludes a four-game series Thursday night at 6:00 CDT against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers before the Lansing Lugnuts arrive at Elfstrom Stadium Friday night to finish the eight-game homestand.
