Rays to honor Detective Brann on Memorial Day

The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays will memorialize police detective LaVern Brann on Memorial Day at C.O. Brown Stadium. This Monday, May 30 game between the Devil Rays and the Beloit Snappers starts at 2:05 p.m.
For each ticket that is purchased during the weekend of May 28-30, the Devil Rays will donate $1 to Sexual Assualt Services of Calhoun County in honor of this fallen detective.
Brann is the 44-year-old Battle Creek detective who died in the line of duty on Monday, May 9, 2005. Brann joined the Battle Creek Police Department in September of 1986. He was actively involved with many community organizations including numerous school functions. He was a leader on or off duty. His contributions to the Sexual Assualt Services of Calhoun County are notable.
"Detective Brann was a wonderful ally to us in our work to stop sexual violence," Sexual Assault Services Program Coordinator Joyce Siegel said. "He worked with care and dedication to protect child victims of sexual abuse and was instrumental in helping us establish Sexual Assault Services and our Child Advocacy Center program."
"As this team becomes a part of the community, we are always looking for people who set an exemplary model," General Manager Martie Cordaro said. "Detective Brann is a true hero who deserves to be recognized."
