Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL – The Kane County Cougars couldn't hold a 3-1 lead Thursday night, falling 6-3 to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in front of 6,744 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Kory Wayment's two-run home run led the offensive attack for the Cougars, who were swept in a four-game series for the first time this season.

The Rattlers got a run against Cougars starter Ryan Ford in the third inning. A walk, single and wild pitch led to a 1-0 score, but Kane County responded in the bottom half off Rattlers starter Aaron Jensen. Chalon Tietje walked, took second on Wayment's groundout and scored on Wes Long's single to tie the game.

Wayment's two-run blast to left came in the fifth to provide Ford and the Cougars with a 3-1 advantage, but the southpaw gave up three hits and a run in the sixth before giving way to Steve Sharpe. Sharpe surrendered a three-run homer to Yung Chi Chen that put Wisconsin up 5-3. Two of three from the homer were charged to Ford, who went 5 1/3 innings, allowed four runs on five hits, walked three and struck out three. The Timber Rattlers added a tally in the ninth against Jose Corchado, who joined the Cougars along with J.R. Pickens from High-A Stockton.

Ford (5-3) took the loss and Jensen (3-4) was the victor. Chad Fillinger saved his third game. The Cougars (20-26) start a four-game series Friday night at Elfstrom Stadium with the Lansing Lugnuts. Mike Rogers (1-3, 5.73) takes the mound against left-hander Aaron Wideman (3-2, 4.53) for the Lugnuts.
