Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GENEVA, IL -- Yung Chi Chen put the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in front with a three run home run in the sixth inning and pitchers Aaron Jensen and Chad Fillinger made the lead stand. Wisconsin beat the Kane County Cougars 6-3 Thursday night at Elfstrom Stadium. The win gave the Rattlers a four game sweep of the Cougars.
Wisconsin (27-20) got on the board in the top of the third. Brent Johnson scored from third on a wild pitch with two outs for a 1-0 Rattler lead.
Kane County (20-26) tied the game with a two-out RBI by Wes Long in the bottom of the third.
The Cougars took a 3-1 lead on a two run home run by Kory Wayment in the bottom of the fifth inning. That homer was the last hit that Jensen would allow. Jensen worked six innings and gave up three runs on five hits. He snapped a personal three
But, the Rattlers rallied back to take the lead in the top of the sixth. Rob Johnson started the inning with a double off Cougar starting pitcher Ryan Ford. One out later, Mike Wilson drove him in with a single to left. Asdrubal Cabrera singled up the middle to put runners at first and third. The single by Cabrera also chased Ford from the game.
Kane County reliever Steven Sharpe entered and immediately went 2-0 to Chen. The next pitch was deposited to the right of the batter's eye in centerfield for Chen's first home run since April 10th and a 5-3 Wisconsin lead.
Fillinger entered the game in the seventh inning and allowed just one hit while striking out five to pick up his third save.
The Rattlers added a run in the top of the ninth. Jack Arroyo reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch by Jose Corchado.
The Rattlers continue their twelve game road trip with a four game series in Davenport, Iowa against the Swing of the Quad Cities. Game one at John O'Donnell Stadium is Friday night. Jason Snyder (4-4, 3.67ERA) is the scheduled starter for Wisconsin. Quinton Robertson (0-0, 4.70ERA) is slated to start for the Swing. Game time is 7:00pm.
