Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, helped by four power play goals, defeated the Springfield Falcons 5-2 Friday night in front of 10,471 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, regaining possession of third place in the American Hockey League's Atlantic Division. The P-Bruins got a pair of goals from second-year center Ben Walter, along with man-advantage tallies by rookie forwards David Krejci, Sean Bentivoglio and T.J. Trevelyan.

The P-Bruins began the game with immediate pressure on Falcons starting goaltender Jonathan Boutin, pelting him with 13 shots in the first period while Springfield could muster only two. In a stretch of just under four minutes late in the frame, Providence saw Walter light the lamp twice, the second time on the power play for his 100th career point, and Krejci earn his team-leading 28th goal, also on the man-advantage only 28 seconds after Walter's second score. Walter, now with 24 goals, trails Krejci by only seven points for the team high. Bentivoglio, Pascal Pelletier, Ryan Glenn and Trevelyan, with a pair, all earned assists on the three goals.

Providence and Springfield exchanged goals about four minutes apart late in the second period as former P-Bruin Eric Healey first did damage on goalie Hannu Toivonen with his 27th goal of the year for the Falcons before Bentivoglio returned his team's lead to three goals with his second. Trevelyan and Walter each assisted on Bentivoglio's score.

In the final period, Springfield's Jacob Micflikier cut his team's deficit to two with his first professional goal in only his second game at the 11:21 mark. Trevelyan, however, sealed Providence's win with his fourth point of the night and 23rd goal of the season on back-up goalie Kevin Beech, on in relief of Boutin. Glenn picked up the only helper on the play.

Toivonen earned his 10th win of the season with 15 saves while Boutin stopped 18 shots to Beech's eight blocks. Overall, Providence out-shot Springfield 31-17.

Special teams proved successful on both ends for the P-Bruins, scoring four times in seven power play chances while killing all six penalties they were assessed. The Falcons held the minutes edge, 29-26.
