March 30, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release

Game Notes: After falling to the Toronto Marlies in game one of their two-game series on March 28th, the Rochester Americans will look to avenge their defeat tonight, as they face the Marlies once again at The Blue Cross Arena. The contest, which is slated to begin at 7:35 p.m. will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks, and will be televised live on Time Warner SportsNet Channel 26.

Head-to-Head: With their 5-4 loss to the Marlies two nights ago, the Amerks fell to 3-4-0 this season and 7-8-0 all-time against their rivals from the north side of Lake Ontario. Toronto has picked up victories in their last three contests against the Amerks.

Amerks Notes: Despite suffering defeats in their last two games, the Amerks are still clinging to a one-point lead over the Hamilton Bulldogs for the second spot in the North Division. With a record of 42-28-1-0 and 85 points, Rochester trails Manitoba by nine points for the top spot. With left winger Clarke MacArthur and center Janis Sprukts on NHL recall, right winger Mark Mancari has taken over as the team's top scorer. The London, Ont., native leads the team in goals (21), assists (27), points (48) and game-winning goals (5). He is second on the team in shots on goal with 142. Right winger Greg Jacina leads the team in that department with 146 shots. Defenseman Brandon Smith is currently fourth among league defensemen with 41 points (9+32). His current point total (41) ties his second-highest season total in his 13-year AHL career. During the 2002-03 season, Smith scored 41 points (9+32) for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He recorded a career-high 62 points (16+46) for the Providence Bruins during their 1998-99 run to the Calder Cup Championship.

Amerks Player Moves: Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the Buffalo Sabres have reassigned defenseman Mike Card from Rochester to the Florida Everblades, while the Florida Panthers have sent right winger Adam Taylor from the Amerks to the Everblades. The reassignment is Card's first to the Fort Myers' based club. He has one goal and eight assists in 50 games with the Amerks this season, and spent a four-game stint with the Sabres earlier in the year. Taylor heads back to Florida after spending five games with Rochester. He has 17 goals and 18 assists in 31 games with the Everblades this season.

Toronto Notes: The Marlies enter tonight's contest at the bottom of the North Division standings. With a record of 29-35-2-4 and 64 points, Toronto trails the Iowa Stars by 14 points for the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division. With just 10 games remaining, their chances of making the postseason are all but gone, but they look to be determined to finish their season respectably. The Marlies have won three straight and six of their last 10 contests. Center Erik Westrum is leading the charge for Toronto, as he leads the team in all offensive categories. The University of Minnesota grad has 23 goals, 34 assists for 57 points in 66 games this season. Goaltender Justin Pogge picked up the win in net for the Marlies in their last game against the Amerks, and is now 16-2-1 this season with a .893 save percentage and a 3.14 goals-against average. The 2004 Toronto Maple Leafs first-round (90th overall) draft pick's 22 losses is the second most among AHL goaltenders.

Next Game: The Amerks will travel to Hamilton, Ont. for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Hamilton Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum. The game will be the 10th of 12 scheduled meetings between the two North Division rivals this season. The contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks.
